How To Find New Product Amazon FBA Ideas In Minutes!

Amazon FBA Product Research

3 Steps For Better Amazon FBA Product Research

If you’re doing Amazon FBA product research, then you’ll be familiar with the 3 essential criteria that profitable products needs to meet: 1) sales revenues of 3x your monthly profit target, 2) a profit margin of 30% before advertising, and 3) provides an opportunity for you to improve upon the existing offering.

Now this third point of differentiating your product offer is undoubtedly the area that beginners find the most challenging, because sometimes it’s just not obvious about what can be improved… unless you know about a relatively little known product research trick that will literally hand valid ideas to you on a plate – ideas that none of your future competitors may have thought of yet because they don’t know where to look or what to look for.

Typically, if you look through the thousands of videos on Youtube on product research, you’ll be advised to read through the bad customer reviews and look for improvement points that way. Whilst that is a valid method for you to follow, it’s a basic bit of product research advice that every new and existing seller on Amazon is likely doing anyway, so any idea that you do come across from reading negative reviews has probably been seen and acted upon by plenty of others already.

To avoid finding new product Amazon FBA ideas that plenty of other sellers are also finding at the exact same time, my advice is to dig a little deeper when doing your product research and do what most of your competitors would never think to do when looking for profitable products – which is to look up what your customer’s specifications are when they’re searching for the product that they want to buy on Amazon. For example, let’s say that we wanted to sell yoga mats online. Rather than doing what everybody else is doing which is reading through a tonne of customer reviews that all say that the quality is poor, we can look at the customer search data that Amazon publishes that might give us clues about new product ideas because of the phrases that customers are using, like ‘non-slip yoga mat’ or ‘yoga mat with carry case’.

Whilst looking up what customers are searching for might sound like a tricky task to do, it’s actually really easy because Amazon publishes all of the information that we need and gives it to the various product research providers out there such as Helium 10. All you need to do to get this data is to first download and install the free Helium 10 Chrome extension, create an account, and then search for any Amazon product that you’re interested in selling. Once you’ve finished typing, if you’ve installed the Helium 10 extension correctly, you should see a pop up box with a load of suggestions based on what actual customers are searching for – some of which may new ideas that aren’t available on Amazon yet.

Here, for example, after I’ve typed in the word ‘duster’, Helium 10 has given lots of related search term ideas and information on the number of customers actually using them, which gives you a sense of the level of demand. From an initial idea of selling a ‘duster’, we’ve now got other product sub-niche ideas that have demand and that we can look into further, and the exciting thing is that some of these sub-niches might not have any competition or even be available on Amazon at all, presenting us with an immediate opportunity to stand out from the crowd and generate substantial profits. Even better, the method that we’ve just followed is only a small sample of the full data set that you can easily get access to for improvement points – with the full set really easy to find too.

1. Download Helium 10

If you’re struggling to find a way to improve a product that you want to sell on Amazon, then you should follow a favourite hack of mine when doing product research, which allows you to see what customers are suggesting to improve themselves. All you need to do to find this data is download the Helium 10 chrome extension, and then click into any Amazon product that you like the look of. Once it’s loaded, scroll down to the Helium 10 graph that should now load and then press the ‘Keywords’ button, which will automatically load up Helium 10’s Cerebro, a tool that tells you all of the search terms that the product that you’ve chosen appears for in Amazon’s search results. The opportunity to find new ideas and customer suggestions exists here because some of these customer search terms might not be a 100% match to what is product being sold, but because there’s nothing available that fits exactly what the customer is searching for, Amazon shows the next best thing instead.

2. Filter Results

Once the results load on the page, to assess the data, change match type to ‘Organic’ and then in organic rank type in ‘1’ to ‘24’. Apply the filters, and then press the search volume button to order the results from high to low. What you’ll now be presented with is a list of search terms and the amount of customers using these terms on Amazon on a monthly basis. As you scroll down the list you’ll undoubtedly see lots of obvious search terms that directly relate to the product that you want to sell, but what you’ll also see is a clue on a product idea that might not have much competition or even exist on Amazon yet.

3. Find Opportunity

Here, for example, after reviewing the list that Helium 10 spat out, we can see that there are 800 people searching for a ‘foldable duster’, which when we search on Amazon, we can see either doesn’t exist, or doesn’t have any sellers mentioning this feature in the product title. This presents us with an immediate money making opportunity, because if we can find a foldable duster to sell on Amazon and then mention this in our title, we’re directly appealing to those 800 people by offering a product that does what they’ve search for – which nobody else is doing.

In my 5 years of finding profitable products on Amazon, this method is one that is very rarely used by people doing product research, despite the fact that it’s incredibly effective and can lead to you discovering lots of new product ideas in a mere matter of minutes. So, if you haven’t followed it before, download the helium 10 chrome extension, search for any product that you’ve previously considered selling, and then run through the steps that we’ve covered today to see what new product ideas you can find.
